A Tramp to some, A Princess to me
Straight out of my head, the girl of my dreams
She sleeps in the toilets, at Swansea Quadrant
Getting her clothes from wherever she can
Twice a week she scrubs up at the local Y-M
Gets given a meal and then she's on the streets again
I asked her out on a whim and a prayer
...She took ages to answer but then she said "Yeah"
So we went for a walk and we started to talk about things
Then we went to a pub and I offered to get her a drink
Two days later, on our second date
I walk behind, while she roller skates
She told me her life had been once filled with art
'Til a man came along and blew it apart
I took her to mine, hoping that face
Would fit in a place not in my life
She told me she couldn't: "It's not fair on you"
"You can't look after me, and you know it too"
So we went to my bed and we stayed up and talked until three
Then she turned off the light and said: "Nos da" to me
When I awoke something was wrong
My girl and her roller skates had gone
I looked all around thinking it was a dream
But, when I looked in my bed, well it couldn't have been
'Cause I looked in my bed, guess what I saw?
It was a picture of us that she had drawn
A picture of us that I now hold quite dear,
Of us holding hands on the Mumbles Pier
